The coroner and the scientist Dr. Warren Chapin (Vincent Price) explores the effect of shiver of fright with its helper David Morris (Darryl Hickman). Dr. Warren is introduced to Ollie Higgins (Philip Coolidge), the parent of a criminal condemned for the electrical chair, by making the autopsy of the body and he makes him a comment of tingler-effect. Ollie asks to drive to Dr. Warner and introduce his deaf wife and mute Martha Higgins (Judith Evelyn), who runs a theatre of their own. Dr. Warner comes back at home, where he lived with his faithless wife and mediocre Isabel Stevens Chapin (Patricia Cutts) and her soft sister Lucy Stevens (Pamela Lincoln). Dr. Warner, confused with situation with his wife, threat and uses as a subject of its experience. When Martha dies from fright, Dr. Warner makes the autopsy and finds a creature which lived inside every human being, food with fright and is controlled by shouting. As soon as Martha was not capable of shouting, the tingler was not made inoffensive and became huge. When the living being runs away, Dr. Warner and Ollie hunt him in an overcrowded cinema.
