1327: after a mysterious death in a Benedictine's abbey are persuaded the monks that the apocalypse comes. With the abbey to play host as an advice on the faith of the order of Franciscan that the church should escape of the wealth William von Baskerville, a respected monk is asked by Franciscan, to help in the regulation of the cause of the untimely death. Unfortunately, more deaths seem because the investigation moves closer to uncovering the secret, the abbey covertly wants, and there is not, finally, preventing the holy judicial investigation to take an active hand in the process. William and his young beginner have to do race with the time to prove the innocence unfairly accused and to avoid the rage of the holy inquisitor Bernardo Gui.
