A school duty of human sciences leads to the social changes which stretch from city to city. Indicated to find an idea which will improve the humanity, a young boy (Haley Joel Osment) decides that if he can make three good deeds for somebody and they can "pay him alternately forward" and so on, positive changes can occur. It with air to be initially a failure, is really a success which is not immediately known, but is upside down located by a reporter who is a benefactor. The initial addressees of the boy are a drug-addict (James Cavaziel), his school teacher badly marked with a scar (Kevin Spacey) and his alcoholized mother (Helen Hunt). While physically and mentally marked by crossed events, the teacher is not the only one carrying scars. The young boy fears the destiny of his mother, particularly to his violent father, alcoholic (Jon Bon Jovi) hands. The mother also supports scars of her childhood with a mother without home, alcoholized (Angie Dickinson).

Désigné de trouver une idée qui améliorera l'humanité, un jeune garçon (Haley Joel Osment) décide que s'il peut faire trois bonnes actions pour quelqu'un et ils peuvent "le payer à tour de rôle en avant" et ainsi de suite, les changements positifs peuvent se produire. Ce qui a l'air d'initialement être un échec, est effectivement un succès qui n'est pas connu immédiatement, mais est localisé à l'envers par un reporter qui est un bienfaiteur. Les destinataires initiaux du garçon sont un drogué (James Cavaziel), son enseignant scolaire mal marqué d'une cicatrice (Kevin Spacey) et sa mère alcoolisée (Helen Hunt). Pendant que physiquement et mentalement marqué par les événements passés, l'enseignant n'est pas le seul portant des cicatrices. Le jeune garçon craint le destin de sa mère, particulièrement à son père brutal, alcoolisé (Jon Bon Jovi) les mains.
