Plot Summary: Cableman Roy Neary is one of several people who find out a close meeting of the first kind, UFOs testifying which flies by the night sky. In him becomes after by an image according to mountain in his head handled and becomes obsessedly with discovering what represents it, strict demand on his marriage putting. In the meantime, government agents have a close meeting of the second kind, physical proofs of out-of-touch visitors in the form of the military vehicles finding out which went some missing decades ago suddenly at the back of beyond appearing around the world. Roy and the agents both follow the instructions which has been given them to reach a side where they will have a close meeting of the third kind: Get in contact.
Cableman Roy Neary ist einer von mehreren Menschen, die eine nahe Begegnung der ersten Art erfahren, UFOs bezeugend, der durch den Nachthimmel fliegt. In ihm wird nachher durch ein bergmäßiges Image in seinem Kopf umgegangen und wird besessen mit dem Entdecken, was es vertritt, strenge Beanspruchung auf seine Ehe stellend. Inzwischen haben Regierungsagenten um die Welt eine nahe Begegnung der zweiten Art, physische Beweise von weltfremden Besuchern in der Form von militärischen Fahrzeugen entdeckend, die vor einigen fehlenden Jahrzehnten plötzlich gingen, am Ende der Welt erscheinend. Roy und die Agenten beide folgen den Hinweisen, die ihnen gegeben worden ist, um eine Seite zu erreichen, wo sie eine nahe Begegnung der dritten Art haben werden: Sich in Verbindung setzen.
