Barbara Covett is a veteran and cynical teacher who is close to the retirement. She is tolerated scarcely by his least brilliant and biting companions who do not know anything about his private life that consists of having principally Portia's care, his aged cat, and spending alone innumerable hours. The average only ones that she has found to take the rim of his desperate solitude write in his newspaper.
